The single biggest contributor that leads to costly foundation repair is almost always related to the grading or slope around the house or structure. Often times, people call us because they have low spots that hold water or their yard slopes back towards the house. This one issue by itself can lead to tremendous damage to a foundation and basement over time and needs to be corrected.
Sometimes just grading alone isn’t enough, so we utilize other systems to help mitigate stormwater runoff so that it doesn’t flow towards a home. Depending on the property and circumstances of the existing grade, we may install swales, berms, drain systems, dry wells, gutter extensions, or other underground water management techniques which once finished usually are hardly noticeable and can be extremely effective at redirecting the flow of water towards a more desirable location.
Grading a yard can sometimes involve removing trees, stumps, rocks and other obstacles that are in the way to resculpt the landscape to better handle the surface water runoff. Sometimes this can even involve strategic planting around the property after we finish our work to help soak up water and help stop the erosion of key parts of the new landscape.
